An Extra Tax on Targets of Discrimination

(This following information was supplied by National Employment Lawyers Association)

It is bad enough to be the target of discrimination. But under current law, those individuals who have fought back to vindicate their rights under civil rights laws are finding that even when they win or settle their cases, much of the money they receive - and even some money they do not receive - disappears in the form of taxes. Now there is hope, in the form of HR 1997 , the Civil Rights Tax Fairness Act of 1999, a bill that will provide tax equity to targets of discrimination.

  • Religious Liberty Protection Act [S-2148] - Letters to Senator Feinstein and other members of the Senate Judicary Committee are needed in favor of this bill - to retain the commerce clause section in the Senate bill. Legal Alert #18 .
